Newborn Care FAQs

+ What does your Newborn Care Team do?

Our Newborn Care Team is available for support day or night! We check in with you upon arrival for updates and ways in which you can be supported. We take care of baby's needs and implement healthy sleep habits. As time allows we will do other tasks as well. At night we can take care of things that are quiet in the home, such as washing bottles and pump parts used during the time your Newborn Caregiver is on shift. During the day we also nurture mom by making light snacks and smoothies while ensuring that she is getting much needed rest. We interact with the siblings and give them attention so mom can spend time with her baby or partner. We provide judgement-free support and education to build confidence and empower you on your parenthood journey.

+ Are Newborn Care Specialists the same as night nurses?

Short answer, no. Newborn Care Specialists are academically trained and experienced to provide care for Newborns. Night nannies, who specialize in watching babies overnight may or may not have academic training. A night nurse is titled only if they have an R.N, L.V.N., or L.P.N. However, the terms are often used interchangeably and no matter which term you are used to using, we'll know what you're talking about!

+ What does a typical schedule look like?

Your daytime Newborn Caregiver arrives at a time flexible with your schedule and stays for a minimum of 6 hours. Your overnight Newborn Caregiver arrives in the evening at a time flexible with your schedule, and stays for a minimum of 9 hours. This gives you time to get much needed rest or down-time, and to connect and communicate with your Newborn Caregiver. Families may typically hire us for services lasting anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 months. We believe it is important to assess each family’s individual needs and goals.

+ How long should I schedule Newborn Care for?

A great schedule to begin with is a minimum of 3 nights per week, for 9 hours per night, for three weeks. Often, families choose to add hours and days to their schedule. Our typical length of Newborn Care for a given family is 3-4 months; during which we establish healthy sleeping habits so that by the end of services your baby is a great sleeper. Common reasons families choose to extend the length of support are: recovering from cesarean section, parents returning to work, and desiring baby to learn healthy sleep habits from the qualified caregiver.

+ Will Newborn Care help my baby sleep through the night?

Sleep Coaching with the goal of your little one sleeping through the night should not begin until after your baby weighs 12 lb. or more. However, Newborn Caregivers will teach you healthy techniques commonly known as 'sleep shaping'. These habits will form a foundation of healthy sleep so that as soon as your baby is ready, they can easily transition to sleeping through the night; which means you get to sleep through the night as well!

+ How does it work if I breastfeed?

If mom is nursing, her Newborn Caregiver is able to wake her up for feedings or give baby pumped milk which allows mom to get extra sleep.
